Merchandise/Licensing
All merchandise should follow our Visual Identity guidelines.
John (Jay) Marano, of the Trademark Licensing Office, must approve in writing the use of any university trademarks on merchandise or if the design represents or references the university in any way. In addition, all such merchandise must follow the full requirements of the visual identity standards and use a licensed supplier. Obtain approval of the design from the Trademark Licensing Office by contacting the director of the Trademark Licensing Office at 412-268-3904 or marano@andrew.cmu.edu. Allow three to five days for review, plus time for any revisions.

Student Organizations
Student organizations are not required to include reference to Carnegie Mellon University in their marketing and promotional materials. However, when they choose to use a university trademark, they must follow the CMU Student Organization Standards for Use of Trademarks and Visual Identity and use a licensed supplier. The club must get approval of the design from the Trademark Licensing Office by contacting the director of the Trademark Licensing Office at 412-268-3904 or marano@andrew.cmu.edu. Allow three to five days for review, plus time for any revisions.
Dos & Don’ts
Do use the registration mark (®) version of the appropriate trademark when printing on merchandise.
Don’t use the registration mark (®) in the Horizontal Wordmark.
Don’t use the registration mark (®) when embroidering.
